Social Media Scare Tactics. A Scammers New Weapon

We often see scammers and hackers using scare tactics to try and get payment using BitCoin. These platforms are not backed by any financial institutions so makes it very difficult to recover any money sent and nearly impossible to trace.
Here is what it looks like:
Below is an email we recently encountered. Here the scammer wants Bitcoin in exchange for not releasing sensitive videos of you. It is becoming a common email money scam. If you see it you should delete it!

So, what can I do to stay safe from this kind of “scare tactic” attack?
- Never send any money using bitcoin to strangers. Scammers and Scammers have turned this scare tactic into a weapon to convince you to send them money.
- If you receive any emails threatening to share data on social media, always contact your IT Department to investigate even when you feel embarrassed by this common scare tactic.
- Pay attention to where the email is coming from. In this case, it was sent from an iCloud account.
